Los Mariachis is my favorite Mexican restaurant. It’s located in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, not too far from where I live. The decor is quite ornate - colorful and overwhelming, really, but it’s cozy and friendly. The waitresses are nice and the food is AMAZING! Unlike most “chic” eateries, the food at Los Mariachis isn’t all decorated and flimsy. It’s honest and substantial. And the prices are just funny.
Here is a summary of my last visit there with my girlfriends.
Before the food arrives, they serve a chip platter with fresh chips, pico de gallo, salsa, radishes and crema.
Large guacamole.
Chicken tostada - a fried tortilla topped with refried beans, shredded simmered chicken, sauteed onions, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. It’s a bit difficult to eat but it’s tasty nonetheless.
I also had one soft beef taco, which is simply pieces of grilled beef, some onions and guacamole wrapped in two soft tortillas.
To accompany our food, we ordered a pitcher of white sangria, which wasn’t the best in the world, but got the job done.
Lastly, we ordered one slice of flan, with four spoons. Los Mariachis has the best homemade flan. It’s super creamy and the caramel sauce is light and has the aroma of burnt sugar.
If you ever make it this lovely place, besides the above mentioned, I also recommend the Aztec soup, the steak burrito, the chicken quesadilla (which is very different from the kind most of us are used to) and the Cuban sandwich.
