1. A useful article from Food52 that explains which grains to rinse and why.
2. New Yorkers, do you always tip waiters 18-20% or would you withhold a portion for un-refilled water glasses and the like? Here, Gothamist makes a strong point for why - aside from cases of “fire, injury, or serious abuse” - we should always tip 20%. What do you think?
3. Tasting Table released a list of their 10 favorite doughnuts in NYC and I have tried none of them, but would have to say my favorite is the sugar raise doughnut at Peter Pan bakery.
4. New York is hosting its first pop-up cat cafe through this weekend. Yes, it is precisely as adorable as it sounds.
5. Remember my interview with Steve of Zha Pan Asian Streetfood? Since then their Asian fried rice balls have become a hit and they were even featured on NBC. Congrats!
6. A new Little Italy bagel shop made quite a splash in food media this week. Eater’s Robert Sietsema referred to it as “bagel theater”. Fancy.
7. I came across a very odd infomercial on TV this week for a product called Snackeez. This thermos-like contraption allows you to simultaneously hold a drink AND a snack. I can’t imagine why one would ever need to have fruit punch and french fries in the same cup but please let me know if you can.
Have a glorious weekend!
