It was five whole years ago that I decided to write a blog. I’m 23 now so I’ve been blogging for, like, a quarter or a fifth of my life (math is not my strong suit). If I’d had a baby in this time instead, he or she would have been a pre-schooler by now, brushing his own teeth and everything, which is just insane! Phew.
I never would have thought that I’d still be doing it in five years when I first started. In this time, I’ve become a better cook, a stronger writer, and a more experienced photographer (despite still not owning a DSLR but I’m working on that). This blog has given me some cool opportunities, like reviewing products, enjoying comped meals, attending events and meeting cool, like-minded people. Blogging has also helped me score a handful of internships and jobs. But aside from the physical perks, the best part of writing a blog is knowing that I’m working on something I’m inspired by and passionate about, and always having something to look forward to do. Even when I’m going through tough times in my personal life, cooking, writing and sharing it with you all provides instant relief and makes me happy.
I’m super grateful to all of you who’ve been reading, commenting and supporting my craft - some since day one, some since just a few seconds ago. Every comment, re-tweet and Facebook like feels infinitely rewarding. Five years later, I no longer just write a blog - I am a blogger.
Since five years is kind of a big deal, I wanted to commemorate the occasion in a special way. I had no idea what I was doing when I first started blogging and I’m still not sure I do, but my skills have improved tremendously and I can now better distinguish between a great food blog post and a so-so one. Again, I am not a professional, but I have come up with a few tips for writing better food blog posts and I discuss them in this here video. So if you’re a beginner food blogger or are considering writing a blog, this video is for you!
Excuse me for the poor editing and for saying “You know?” so much. It’s probably annoying but I’m new to videos… you know? Hope you like it!

Congratulations Sasha and happy birthday Chez Sasha!!! 5 years is certainly a very long time! This is such an awesome way to celebrate the 5th blogging anniversary! Great video!
Happy birthday, Sash!
Awesome video - you look and sound fabulous and your nails not only match those polka dots but also the mahogany desk behind you.
Awesome photobombing by the cat as well, no doubt the local neighbourhood cats consider him something of a celebrity.
Great video!
Fred got his big cameo debut!
