Cape Cod Eats

A small part of me didn’t want to go back to Cape Cod this summer, purely because I was afraid to spoil the incredible memories from last summer with new memories - but the rest of me could not wait to go back!

Mac's Seafood Cape Cod

Cape Cod is a magical place. The heat of the sun, the abundance of seafood, the vast expanses of beach, and the winding roads encased in greenery, all create an irresistible energy that just sucks you in.

Mac’s Seafood and Karoo Kafe are two eateries I really enjoyed on the trip.

Cape Cod

Mac’s Seafood prides itself on using the freshest local fish (and doing so before it was trendy). They have been operating for over 15 years, with this counter-to-table eatery as well as a restaurant and a handful of fish markets on Cape Cod. Their menu consists of fried and grilled seafood platters and sandwiches, burgers and even burritos. And don’t forget about that fresh homemade lemonade.

This outpost (in Wellfleet) is located at the end of a gorgeous pier.

Rene had the oyster po’ boy, while I opted for a very rare grilled tuna sandwich that was served with a ginger soy sauce. The fish was indeed incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly. The toasted rolls it was served on were also fresh and just the right texture. Let me tell you, there is nothing like eating fresh out-of-the-ocean seafood while sitting across from the person you love on a Cape Cod pier. I hope everyone gets to experience it at least once in their lives!

A lively scene from the 4th of July parade in Provincetown (my, this post is overdue!)

Provincetown - a tourist destination on the very tip of Cape Cod - is chock full of mediocre fast food. Along with Mojo’s, Karoo Kafe is one of the only places to eat well on-the-go there. Karoo Kafe serves traditional South African cuisine and is gluten-free- and vegan-friendly.

I went for the pumpkin kibbi sandwich. This treat is not unlike falafel, except that besides chick peas it also features pumpkin and bulgur. The deep-fried kibbi was well complemented by the creamy tahini dressing and the crisp romaine leaves. This is the perfect filling yet light meal to have after a day of frolicking on the beach.

Karoo Kafe Provincetown

Rene went for the lamb burger, which was served on a toasted English muffin with a yogurt sauce. I had a bite of it and will gladly account for its juiciness and freshness.

Karoo Kafe Provincetown

I would definitely recommend Karoo Kafe to anyone. For the same $10 or less that you would spend on a quick meal at some subpar burger shack, you can have a freshly-prepared, unique meal at Karoo.
