Sippin’ on gin and juice

Beer is my usual poison. My heart generally lies with thick, bitter “stout”, or light, unfiltered “Belgian-style” ales. Lately, however, I’ve really been enjoying gin. I used to despise it for its piney aroma, but now that aroma is exactly the reason why I love it. Funny how our tastes change. Besides adding cilantro and lime to the classic gin and tonic, the most exciting thing I’ve done with gin so far has been replacing the tonic with this amazing unfiltered ginger ale. Because gin is flavored with lots of natural herbs and botanicals, it pairs really well with the peppery freshness of ginger. I decided to take things to the next level and infuse my gin with ginger. Here is how I did it (via this super helpful link): I combined half a liter of gin with about two inches of peeled ginger that I thinly sliced in a clean, airtight glass bottle that I keep in a cool, dark place.  I agitate the bottle three times daily to ensure even flavor infusion. The infusion may take up to two weeks. I started the process on Monday so I will taste it in a few days to see how much longer I should leave it for. I’ll be sure to keep you updated on the progress!

Do you like gin? How do you prefer to drink it?

  1. Woot woot, Belgian style beer! ;) I used to be into wodka, but as a loayl Belgian girl, I started enjoying beer. Once, I tried ‘flavourless’ gin, ‘young gin’ I believe, and that was when I decided to never drink gin again, unless it has a fancy flavour :) .

  2. [...] you’ve been attentively reading this blog, you know that I recently decided to make ginger-infused gin. My experiment is now complete and I am happy to say that I am satisfied with the results. [...]

I love hearing from you. Make my day plz!
