Quite contrary to the way I felt about the weather on Sunday, the weather so far this week in New York has been no less than splendid. Most of the day today was in the high ’60′s and without a cloud in sight. Besides updating my wardrobe (always exciting, yes?) this means that the jogging season has begun. Now I know people technically can jog in the winter just as well, but who the hell wants to? Aside from the exercise, relaxation and endorphin boost, the weather is what makes running that much more enjoyable.
So this morning, I put on my sweats and sneakers and went jogging in the park. Mm…isn’t spring just marvelous? Anyway, after exercising I usually make myself a smoothie: 1/3 c orange juice, 1/3 c low-fat milk, 1 tbsp almond or peanut butter, 1 banana and several handfuls of antioxidant rich berries (like the blue, black or rasp. variety,) all blended over ice.
This is the perfect way to restore the nutrients your body lost while exercising. It is also perfect for those of us who don’t like to eat heavily after working out.
